From Publishers Marketplace, July 7th, 2021: In Polly Stewart’s upcoming literary crime novel, THE GOOD ONES, Nicola, an unemployed academic and true-crime obsessive, is back in her Appalachian hometown to settle her mother’s estate. It is the place where the disappearance of childhood friend, Lauren Ballard, still haunts Nicola and her classmates as adults. Driven by a need for closure and a feeling that she was herself partially responsible, she takes a job as a substitute teacher at her old high school and starts to do her own investigation. This adds up to an engrossing mystery about the push and pull of female friendship and the danger of being good when the rules for women begin to chafe. The North American rights were bought by Sarah Stein at Harper, in a pre-empt, for publication in Spring 2023
