Brandon del Pozo has been awarded the Hayes Award granted by the Police Executive Research Forum for innovation and leadership in improving American policing as an “up-and-coming” law enforcement executive whose character, record of leadership, and commitment to better policing embody the ideals to which Gary Hayes was committed. Past recipients include Commissioner William Bratton (New York City) and Charles Ramsey (former Commissioner in Philadelphia and Chief in Washington, DC).

Jess Row receives a 2016 fellowship grant for fiction writing. Often characterized as “midcareer” awards, Guggenheim Fellowships are intended for individuals who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts.

The Paris Review honored Lydia Davis with its Hadada Award for lifetime achievement. Previous recipients include John Ashbery, Joan Didion, Paula Fox, Norman Mailer, Peter Matthiessen, Philip Roth, Norman Rush, and James Salter.

Kirstin Valdez Quade’s collection NIGHT AT THE FIESTAS has been selected as a finalist for the New York Public Library’s Young Lions Fiction award, which is awarded annually for a writer age 35 or younger. The winner will be announced on June 9, 2016.

Karen Russell’s “The Prospectors” and Ben Marcus’ “Cold Little Bird” have been selected for THE BEST AMERICAN SHORT STORIES 2016, edited by Junot Diaz. Both stories were originally published in The New Yorker, and the collection will be published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in October.

Kirstin Valdez Quade’s first book, the story collection NIGHT AT THE FIESTAS (Norton, March 2015) has won the National Book Critics Circle (NBCC) John Leonard Award for best first book (they award one first book across all genres and last year’s winner was Phil Klay’s REDEPLOYMENT).

Francine Prose, along with David Remnick, Colm Toibin, Isaac Asimov, Allen Ginsberg, Ezra Jack Keats and Dawn Powell, has been inducted into the New York State Writers Hall of Fame.
